Rosh Hashanah hosting checklist: everything that falls through the cracks
Not the cooking. Everything else: the chairs, the candles, the kids, the leftover containers. The things you remember half an hour before people arrive.
Final headcount (kids and new partners included)
Ask about allergies, vegetarians and vegans
Lock the menu and send it to whoever is bringing something
Count the chairs, or borrow from the neighbors
Get out the good tablecloth and serving dishes, check they're clean
Flowers or pomegranate branches for the table
Apples-and-honey bowl and a simanim plate
Print the simanim blessings (or open the list on your phone)
Seating plan: who sits next to whom, who sits far from whom
A corner for the kids: games, crayons, something to eat
Clear the fridge before the big shop
Cook ahead whatever freezes, and thaw it in time
Check candles, trash bags and toilet paper
Wine chilling, grape juice for the kids
Charge your phone: one family photo at least
Containers so guests take leftovers home
A shower and fifteen quiet minutes before everyone arrives
