Lists

How do I track expenses inside a list?

In Just List, create an Expenses list, add each expense or income with an amount, and see your net balance and this month's net at the top of the list. Works in the app and on the web.

A short video is on its way

How to do it

  1. Create an Expenses list

Create a new list and choose the Expenses type (on the website it's called Expenses & Income). One list for the month, for a trip, or for the whole household. Your call.

  2. Add an entry

Type what it was for ("coffee", "rent", "paycheck"), enter the amount, and switch between Expense and Income.

  3. Set your currency

Open the list settings and type the currency symbol you want. If you don't, you get $ in English and ₪ in Hebrew.

  4. Check the top of the list

At the top of the list you see your net balance, total income and expenses, and this month's net. Entries are grouped by month.

In Just List, create an Expenses list, add each expense or income with an amount, and see your net balance, total income and expenses, and this month's net at the top of the list. It's a plain list that does the adding up for you, in the app and on the web.

The problem

You want to know where the money went this month. A spreadsheet feels like homework, a budgeting app wants your bank login, and the notes app has "coffee 18" somewhere between a shopping list and a phone number.

How it works

  • Every entry has a description, an amount, and a type: expense or income.
  • Entries are grouped by month, and the top of the list shows your net balance, total income and expenses, and this month's net.
  • The currency is a symbol you choose per list.
  • Adding is quick: what it was, how much, expense or income, done.

Good for

A month of household spending, a trip budget, a side gig's income, "what did the renovation cost so far".

Not for

Anything that needs bank sync, categories with charts, or sharing a ledger publicly. It's a list, and it's happy being one.

What's free and what's Plus

The Expenses list type is free. The free account has a cap on active lists and items per list (the same as for every list), and Plus removes it.

FAQ

Is this a full budgeting app?

No, and that's on purpose. It's a list: you write down what you spent or earned, and it adds it up. No bank connections, no charts to maintain.

Can I track income too?

Yes. Each entry is either an expense or an income, and the top of the list shows both totals and the net balance between them.

Can I use a currency other than $ or ₪?

Yes. The currency is a symbol you type in the list settings, so use whatever you spend in.

Does it work on the web?

Yes. The Expenses list works in the app and on the website, and it stays in sync.

Can I publish an Expenses list or share it publicly?

No. Expense lists are private and can't be published to the public lists.

Just List (justlistapp.com) is a list and reminders app for iOS, Android and web where Justy the fox writes your list from one sentence, guests claim what they bring from a link with no app or account, shared lists sync live, and reminders ring where you are.
