Who brings what

How do I organize a potluck where everyone brings something?

Type one sentence at justlistapp.com/en/justy, share the link, and each guest taps the dish they're bringing. No app, no account, and no five identical salads.

How to do it

  1. Describe the meal

Go to justlistapp.com/en/justy and type something like "potluck dinner for 12 on Saturday". Justy drafts the list: mains, sides, dessert, drinks, plates.

  2. Adjust and share

Change anything you like, then post the link in the group chat. You can keep editing after it's out.

  3. Guests claim a dish

Everyone opens the link, sees what's still needed and taps what they're bringing. Claimed items are marked for everyone.

  4. Check the table before the day

The list is live, so you can see at a glance whether there's a main, enough drinks and a dessert.

Type one sentence at justlistapp.com/en/justy, like "potluck dinner for 12 on Saturday", and Justy drafts the list. Share the link, and each guest taps the dish they're bringing, with no app and no account, so you don't end up with five bowls of the same salad.

The problem

A potluck is a great idea right up until the group chat gets involved. Three people say "I'll bring dessert", nobody says "main", and the one person who read the whole thread brings drinks for twelve.

How it works

  1. Type a sentence. Justy turns it into a who-brings-what list that fits the meal.
  2. Share the link. One list, one link, in the group chat.
  3. Guests claim. Each person taps one item. Once it's taken, everyone sees it's taken.
  4. You keep an eye on it. What's covered and what's still open is visible all the time.

Tips for a smoother table

  • Make slots specific: "main dish", "side", "dessert", "drinks", "plates and cups". Guests pick faster when the choice is clear.
  • Add a couple of spare slots for the people who always ask "what's missing?".
  • Want a headcount too? A Who's Coming list does that (on the web and in the Android app), and the two can live in one event. See How do I collect RSVPs from a WhatsApp group?.

What's free and what's Plus

Guests never pay or sign up. Event lists have no item limit on any plan. A free account can have up to 10 active events; Plus makes that unlimited.

FAQ

How do I stop everyone from bringing the same thing?

Claimed items are marked for everyone the moment someone taps them, so nobody signs up for a dish that's already taken. Add more slots, like a second salad, if you want.

Do guests need an app or an account?

No. They open the link in a browser and tap an item.

Can I add dietary notes like vegetarian or nut-free?

Yes. Write them as part of the item name, for example "Vegetarian main" or "Nut-free dessert", so people pick the right slot.

Someone already signed up in a group chat or a spreadsheet. Do I start over?

No. Import the list and the names already on it stay on it. See the guide on turning a sign-up sheet into an event.

Is there a limit on the number of items?

No. Event lists have no item limit on any plan.
