Who brings what

How do I split the equipment for a school trip among parents?

Start at justlistapp.com/en/justy and Justy drafts the trip's equipment list. Share the link with the parents' group and each parent taps what they're bringing, with no app and no account.

How to do it

  1. Tell Justy about the trip

Go to justlistapp.com/en/justy, tap Hosting something?, pick Something else and type "grade 5 field trip". Then pick how many people, and Justy drafts a starting list.

  2. Fix the list

Add, remove or rename items until it is your gear list (water, first-aid kit, sun hats, trash bags). Food lines Justy adds can go or be renamed. Need more than one? Tap the item and set how many (water jugs ×4); each parent picks how many they're bringing. You can keep editing after it's shared.

  3. Send the link to the parents' group

Drop the link in the class group chat. Nobody has to install anything first.

  4. Each parent takes an item

Parents open the link, see what's still needed and tap what they're bringing. Taken items are marked, so you don't end up with nine coolers and no water.

  5. Check the list the evening before

Open the link and see what's covered and what's still open. Ping the group about the missing items only.

Start at justlistapp.com/en/justy, Justy drafts the trip's equipment list, and you drop the link in the parents' group. Each parent taps the item they're bringing, with no app and no account, and you see what's covered and what's still missing as it happens.

The problem

Someone in the parents' group writes "so who's bringing the first-aid kit?" and gets a thumbs-up, two "maybe"s and a photo of a dog. Three days later nobody remembers who said what.

With Just List there's one list behind one link. An item is either taken, with a name next to it, or it's still open.

Tips for a trip

  • Need more than one of something? Set the quantity on the item ("water jugs ×4") and parents pick how many to take.
  • Long list? No problem, there is no item limit.
  • Send the link once and pin it in the group.

Already have a list?

If the sign-up is already running in a spreadsheet or a group message, read How to turn a sign-up sheet into an event. For the full flow, see How do I organize who brings what without everyone installing an app?.

What's free and what's Plus

Parents never pay and never sign up. Event lists have no item limit on any plan. A free account can have up to 10 active events; Plus makes that unlimited.

FAQ

Do parents need to install an app or sign up?

No. Parents open the link in their browser, tap an item and they're done. No sign-up, no password, no payment.

Is there a limit on how many items the list can have?

No. Event lists have no item limit on any plan, including the free one.

Someone can't make it after all. Can the item go back on the list?

Yes. From your organizer link (or the app) you can remove any claim, and the item becomes open again. The person gets a heads-up.

We already have the list in a class group message or a spreadsheet.

No need to retype it. You can import a spreadsheet, a Google Sheets link, a photo of a sign-up sheet or a pasted list, and names already on it stay on it.

Just List (justlistapp.com) is a list and reminders app for iOS, Android and web where Justy the fox writes your list from one sentence, guests claim what they bring from a link with no app or account, shared lists sync live, and reminders ring where you are.
